OCR (optical character recognition), as the name implies, converts an image to text.
There are some things that VNR can’t get text. You can get Voiceroid, but if you can’t afford it you can use Google’s online text to speech instead. Text-to-speech (TTS) programs will read it for you. This is particularly useful to the games’ characters with no voices.
SYSTEM LOCALE EMULATOR INSTALL
Plan on studying Japanese words/phrases? Install the dictionaries and you can hover on the game text to reveal definitions. You need ATLAS version 14 and LEC version 15. The project is similar with Locale-Emulator, but LE doesnt support 64-bit application, so I base on Detours to start a new project. This is the most important part if you want an offline machine translator. VNR will automatically detect offline machine translators installed on your machine particularly ATLAS and LEC. For those unaware, Windows 10 has removed support for AppLocale and all derivatives (HF pAppLocale, etc) and broken DX8 (which some older games use). The same goes for Visual Novel Reader, it needs to be in Japanese locale. You need to remember to select every time you want to play cause Lamento opens to a black screen if locale isn’t Japanese. Click the Start button, and then select Control Panel. Right click on exe and select Locale Emulator/ Run in Japanese from the menu. You don’t need to do this if you have manually set your computers locale to Japanese using Windows “Language and Region” in the control panel. In order to display Japanese characters in an English environment, the system locale must be set to Japanese. I changed it back to English afterwards but for some reason when I check my system information the locale is still Japanese and nothing I do will change it. These Locale emulators are used to make the program think that your computer is set to Japan settings because some games won’t run if you don’t do so. System Locale is stuck in Japanese I recently changed my Locale and system language to Japanese in order download something from Japan.
You need to install it yourself then manually locate its installation directory using “Browse”. Will help you setup Locale Emulator (Better than App Locale).
